Progressive Pool Management, Inc. is an experienced total management and service company specializing in commercial swimming pool facilities. We have been contracted by the University City Swim Club to provide lifeguard/front desk/maintenance services.

Lifeguarding is an extremely rewarding experience, providing both a fantastic summer atmosphere while at the same time instilling a very strong sense of duty and responsibility. It is one of the best jobs you will ever have. People willing to accept the challenge of lifeguarding all share the same high level of responsibility and the commitment to safeguard the lives and property of those in their care. Lifeguards must be prepared to use emergency procedures when required. If practicing preventative lifeguarding, true emergencies are rare.

Pool lifeguards working at UCSC supervise the pools, decks, and adjacent areas. Lifeguards constantly observe the swimmers in their jurisdiction, protect their safety, make sure rules are followed, give first aid, and use the rescue techniques prescribed by the American Red Cross when needed. Lifeguards also keep records, write reports, and do necessary pool and facility maintenance/cleaning.

Red Cross Lifeguard class at UCSC is provided by a Red Cross Authorized provider at no cost to qualified candidates intending to work at UCSC. The lifeguard class provides entry-level participants the knowledge and skills to prevent, recognize and respond to aquatic emergencies and to provide care for breathing and cardiac emergencies, injuries and sudden illnesses until EMS personnel take over. Prerequisites: Minimum age: 15 years; Swim 300 yards continuously; Tread water for 2 minutes using only the legs; Complete a timed event within 1 minute, 40 seconds by starting in the water, swimming 20 yards, surface dive to a depth of 7 to 10 feet to retrieve a 10-pound object, return to the surface and swim 20 yards on the back to return to the starting point, exit the water without using steps or a ladder. Participants who successfully complete the Lifeguarding course receive an American Red Cross certificate for Lifeguarding/First Aid/CPR/AED, valid for 2 years.
